I vividly remember the day my good mate and creator of Four Kings One War, Glyn Leggett, dug out this ‘Chess variation’ that he had sitting in his closet.
I was intrigued; “what is this”, I pondered as he excitedly proceeded to assemble some handmade polystyrene pieces, to form what looked like a 3D Chess arena. My interest quickly turned to amazement! Not only did the combat arena look awesome, but once the two sets of armies were set up on top of their respectitive terraces, my mind started spinning. How does this game actually work?
Knowing traditional Chess certainly helped me in getting my head around how this exciting new game played, and it wasn’t too difficult at all, quickly adapting to the rules and moves, while being given a quick on-the-spot tutorial. After my first game, I was instantly hooked on this new version of the game, which I had loved as a kid. EPIC!
The thing I love most of all about Four Kings One War gameplay, is that it is essentially an expanded version of traditional Chess. Although there have been slight modifications to the movements of two pieces only, the Pawn and Knight, due to the larger playing area, and with the addition of two moves per turn, the gamepay is not too far removed from the original version that I still play and love.
There are endless combinations of moves and hundreds of strategies in this game. Four Kings One War not only looks incredible, the gameplay will excite you and get your creative brain cells working overtime. It creates an air of excitement and competiveness every time you have two combatants ‘going at it’. Fierce rivalries have been forged and being the dominant player is always high on the agenda for anyone who plays Four Kings One War.
I will play this game forever and encourage you to jump into the world of this new chess experience, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
